Artist Statement

Defined by a very strong affinity with patterning and the accompanying rich colour, my work has a resonance of cultural identity which reflects my Africaness and my exposure to the textiles of varying cultures.  Predominantly working within the public art realm, I have a multi-disciplined studio based practise.

Biography

Living a rich and full life on two continents (with purposeful adventures on various others,) has allowed the opportunity to be inspired on multiple levels - drawing from a rich mine of experience within my multi-disciplined practice.
 With a passion for visual arts, for over 30 years I have worked as a full time arts professional. Using my original strengths as a Graphic Designer and illustrator, I have drawn on the combination of strong technical background and sound conceptual development and combined it with management skills that I have been developing over the last fifteen years, giving me the flexibility and professionalism that lends itself to a wide range of tasks and projects.
Through grief, birth, motherhood and other defining moments, I have continued to explore and test new grounds within a combination of artist roles. I have designed, illustrated, lectured at tertiary level, worked with textiles, exhibited both in Australia and Africa, run my own gallery space (here and in Zimbabwe) and developed and run design based businesses.
More recently I have worked on a range of public art projects - that are a sound platform to best utilise my collective skills. My body of public artwork covers a scope of integrated, industrial, wall mounted, freestanding and painted.
 I am now full time studio based and about to launch into a residency in New Delhi as part of an exploration of the sacred feminine in India. I have commissioned work in many private collections - distributed worldwide.
