Folio Patrons are leading individuals and businesses supporting Artsource to deliver a groundbreaking publishing project to help fix a problem that has held back artists in Western Australia for many years.
Artsource is centred on the artists of Western Australia. These artists represent many different perspectives, yet we all share a deep commitment to art and a strong belief in the contribution artists make to the world. Our new group of Folio Patrons share this belief.
We have a great story to tell.
We need to tell it now.
The Problem
Western Australia is home to some great visual artists. However, many face a big problem. They are often invisible. Furthermore, there is a real danger that many will, in time, be overlooked or forgotten by history. The reason? For years, there has been little quality writing and publishing concerning living visual artists in our state.
Quality writing is one of the fundamental requirements in creating an environment where art is valued and artists can flourish.
Of course, this is not just a problem for the artists. How does this reflect on Western Australia? Nobody here should be content to fall behind other states and nations when it comes to recording and celebrating the best of our visual artists. We have a great story to tell and we need to tell it now.
Our Solution
Artsource is the leading body for artists in Western Australia and our fresh strategic direction addresses this problem head on. The Folio Project is a substantial and groundbreaking publishing initiative putting Western Australian artists where they belong: front and centre.
Over the next three years we aim to publish six influential and beautiful art books and 60 artist catalogues to showcase our brilliant Western Australian visual artists and their work to the world.
-
The Artists of Western Australia: a three volume series
-
Insight: The Visual Arts of Western Australia (working title): a three volume series
-
Individual artist catalogues
These unique Western Australian publications will be of fundamental importance, not only in building the understanding and market for visual art, but also in providing a vital historical record of the visual arts in our time. High-quality printed materials will enable us to operate on a national and international level, targeting key audiences to promote Western Australian artists; building their profiles, audiences and careers.
Naturally, all these publications will feature quality writing, beautiful photography and be published, printed and presented to high professional standards. The publications will be further supported with superb online content and individual copies presented to a wide and influential audience nationally and internationally.
