In partnership with the City of South Perth and the EVOLVE. development programme, this Artsource Talks explored what ‘emerging’ looked like from the 1980’s to the 2010’s. Four artists from four different decades, Claire Bushby, Jurek Wybraniec, Dr Perdita Phillips and Antony Muia shared their experience of being an emerging artist and discussed the challenges of emerging today and whether it was different to those who emerged many years earlier.

Emerged is the opportunity to gain some insight into the evolution of change as well as the consistency that has remained in emerging visual art over the years.

What is the Evolve. development programme?
The City of South Perth hosts a variety of low cost workshops and professional development sessions alongside the Emerging Artist Award. The programme is open to both Award entrants in the early stages of their artistic careers and creatives who are keen to develop their skills.
