Biography

Julie Kenny honed her photographic skills in analogue based film photography, utilising 35mm, medium and large format cameras. She more recently merged her knowledge of the traditional medium with new technologies in the form of drone photography. Growing up in a number of Australian outback towns developed her love of exploring landscapes, strong cups of tea and a good chinwag. Respect for Country and the significance a landscape can hold is thoroughly embedded in her being. One of her favourite pastimes is travelling to distant places, soaking up cultural experiences and exploring new spaces. With an eye for detail, she finds beauty in places and people. After gaining her CASA certified drone licence, Julie returned to her roots, ‘wandering out yonder’ in the diverse landscapes of Western Australia.

Artist Statement

Connecting with Boodja (Country) is such an important aspect of my aerial photography. It is such a contrast to feel very grounded in a landscape while viewing it from an aerial perspective. It is important to acknowledge that this perspective has been documented by Aboriginal peoples for thousands of years.
