Biography

Fieldey, A.K.A. Haylee Fieldes, is an emerging artist working in Perth, Western Australia. She was born in New Zealand in 1983 but grew up on Norfolk Island, a tiny isolated landmass in the South Pacific. After moving to Sydney in 2002 to study Graphic Arts, Fieldey travelled internationally, becoming fascinated with old school tattoo art in London. She arrived on Perth in 2007 and began painting surfboards under the pseudonym “Fieldey” in 2011. Fieldey has since taken off with numerous commissions, workshops, articles and murals to her name, earning her a place as an online guru for surfboard art and a popular fixture in the Perth Street Art scene.

Artist Statement

My art explores the tension between the familiar and unfamiliar, recruiting pop culture and clichés to open a dialogue between interests in religion, sexuality, attraction and revulsion. Using aerosols and paint on non-traditional canvasses such as surfboards, skateboards and walls, my work responds to these surfaces and their unique contexts and utilities.
