Originally built in the early 1900s ‘Connolly’s Building’ now has a new lease of life.
In response to the strong demand for artists’ studios in the Swan area and surrounds, ARTSOURCE MIDLAND offers 18 substantial, affordable working spaces, with leases of up to 5 years to both emerging and established artists of various art practices, plus an artist-run shop-front.
At street level Jessica Jubb has opened JJHQ – a place to make and sell her art and jewellery. Fascinated by the way new meaning can be created from the pairing of unexpected materials, Jessica creates hand-crafted wearables composed of fabrics, existing objects, hand-worked precious metals and creative stitches.
The Midland studios bring the total number of studios managed by Artsource to over 50 in 8 locations.
• 18 studios currently housing 13 emerging and new artists, and 4 established artists.
• The studios service a number of artists in the City of Swan area, as well as artists from Highgate, Mount Lawley, North Perth and Ballajura, reinforcing the importance of affordable, professional studio spaces to an artist’s artistic practice.
• Studio tenants work across artistic mediums, including painting, sculpture, textiles, installation, drawing, design, jewellery, printmaking, as well as one writing studio.
